Actual Description of Services:
Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company Limited (MUWASCO), received funds from the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Water and Sanitation Out Put Based Aid Project implemented by Water Services Trust Fund.
The proposed project comprise construction of a 280mm outside diameter(OD) uPVC transmission main approximately 9.2 km long running from Shimo to Gakoigo. The transmission main will be an off take from the DN 400mm bulk water which transmit water from Kiawambeu Treatment Plant to Murang’a Town. A new storage/distribution tank (1250 m3) has been proposed at the Chief’s camp from where water will be distributed to Gakoigo, Maragua Ridge, Samar, Kianjiru-ini, Kamuiru and Mbugua sub locations. The proposed main distribution system will comprise pipelines of diameters 200mm to 50mm.
Services Provided by the Firm Staff.
WSTF contracted EMC Consultants to prepare a detailed socio-economic analysis and demographic survey for the above proposed project as part of the Output Based Aid Project funded by the World Bank. EMC is the Independent Verification Agent. This involved;
Establish the subproject baseline for the WSP (MUWASCO) whom express interest for financing under the OBA, against which the outputs linked to subsidy disbursement will be measured and verified as claimed by the WSP.
Confirm that the subsidy eligibility criteria have been met
Verify subproject costs
Report the findings to the WSTF and make a recommendation for payment of subsidy to qualifying WSPs.
To undertake a baseline survey of each WSP to determine the technical, financial, environmental and social soundness and viability of the proposed sub project
Establish the subproject baseline for the WSP (MUWASCO) whom express interest for financing under the OBA, against which the outputs linked to subsidy disbursement will be measured and verified as claimed by the WSP.
To verify the target areas under Maji Data and if not in Maji Data, to check whether they exhibit characteristics of a low income area either as an urban poor or rural area.
