Consultancy to Prepare and Draft a Professional Foresters’ Bill

Project Objective
The overall objective of the “Miti Mingi Maisha Bora – Support to Forest Sector Reform in Kenya” is “A reduction in poverty through ensuring that the forest sector contributes effectively and sustainably to improving the lives of the poor , restoring the environment and aiding the economic recovery and growth of Kenya, within the context of Vision 2030”.
Tasks for the Team
Reviewed current legislation for professional associations in general in Kenya and for professional forestry associations in other countries.
Prepared a detailed report on professional associations, with recommendations on key elements for inclusion in a professional foresters bill and a proposed road map for the enactment of the bill.
Consulted with the Constitution Reform Committee of the Ministry of Justice
Lead a consultative stakeholder workshop in conjunction with FSK Executive Committee to deliberate on the key issues and suggested drafting of the proposed bill including a code of practice for professional foresters.
Prepared a draft Professional Foresters’ Bill
Lead a Follow-up consultative stakeholder workshop in conjunction with the FSK Executive Committee to discuss and finalize the proposed draft
Assisted the FSK Executive Committee in a consultative meeting with the relevant Parliamentary Committee.
