Project Description:

The Kenyan economy is dependent on climate-sensitive sectors, such as agriculture, water, energy, tourism, wildlife, and health, whose vulnerability is increased by climate change. Increased intensities and magnitudes of climate related disasters in Kenya aggravate conflicts, mostly over natural resources. To align with the global climate goals, Kenya has committed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 32% by 2030 against a Business as Usual (BAU) scenario through its Nationally Determined Contribution. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) has begun the work of updating the NCCAP for the period 2023-2027.

Objective: To support the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP) Task Force and the CCD to update the National Climate Change Action Plan for the period 2023-2027.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Your Staff Within the Assignment:

EMC Consultants act as a Technical Advisor to the CCD to assist them in meeting their legal obligation to update the NCCAP as set out in the Climate Change Act. The team specifically were responsible for providing the following services:
